Egg Challenge - capnmich

This is a fun idea. I have a lot of things to work on with this, but this is my starting point.

Here is where I'm at with mine, and I think I'm pretty much happy with it, but if anyone has any suggestions for improvement, I'd love to hear your feedback. Thanks!

Looking good. Try adding more resolution to your checkerboard, it's a bit spiky in places. What kind of lighting are you using?

Thanks Stwert, I'll do that. And I've just got 2 point lights, 1 to the left and one to the right, and an area light overhead. I believe I decreased the intensity of each to .5.

Thanks for that feedback Stwart, upping the resolution did the trick for the cloth, and I like it better like that.

The Dof is a nice touch, a little grainy but it help the image appear more convincing. I keep looking at those little brown eggs and they look like chocolatey treats, the highlights seem a bit heavy and how are those knives being held up? Have you been looking at references for materials and lighting? For example, raw egg whites are usually pretty transparent and the counter top material is a kind of vague. The net is full of ref images and you've got another month! Just my two cents! user added image

Thank you for your comments Genny! That gives me a lot to think about. I'll say the knives are the plastic ware that are made to look like silver and they're stuck to the sides of the eggs with glue dots. user added image
To be quite honest, I have a lot to learn in the area of lighting, so I'll put more work in on that, and regarding the countertop material, are you referring to the items on the countertop, or the actual texture of the countertop?
Thanks!

dont knock the glue dots! lol... Getting there with the DOF it is really starting to focus your attention on the action. If you dont mind me saying I personally find the red bowl a bit distracting though, it does take my eye away from the slicing eggs. Maybe if the light was not so brightly lit or blur it out with more DOF? Just my thoughts mate user added image

Thanks!

The actual countertop surface, its not very descriptive, it just looks like a texture on a completely matte surface. What kind of surface is it? Marble, some kinda of laminated surface? Don't know, I can't tell.
