face selection looks odd

what have i done here, its showing me the faces on the other side when i make a selection and its really confusing me, never seen this before!

Maybe you have symmetry enabled?

i forgot about this - it was like some sort of odd x-ray mode, showing verts faces and eges on the other side that were selcted and looked really messy and confusing, the scene was corrupted in the end
