Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

hehe! what about the last competition? I know this question is embarrassing, shame on me! but does it need more than 1 or 2 people finishing their projects to have a winner? where will the winning projects be declared?

sincerely Falott

another question i just thought of, is this comp restricted to certain countries, cos i notice mtmckinley is from the USA. I am from the UK, so would that affect anything?

I tried looking in the rules but i didn't see anything to help with this.

Winners of the last competition was announced, appropriately, in the announcements forum. user added image

Being in the UK is fine. The big-wigs of the Simply sites are in the UK and have shipped prizes to both Europe and US. user added image

Topic is "Fear and Loathing"

I am new to this forum....so forgive my ignorance.
This seems to be a very open ended idea.... i like that, but what exactly fits into this category? Pretty much any scene could be put into this category depending on what the artist says it means to him/her. Did I miss something?

I would think any scene that conveys the idea of "fear" and/or "loathing" would fit into this challenge.

For instance, a scene showing a prisoner snearing through prison bars at the guard dangling the cell keys with a smile on his face would convey the prisoner loathing the guard.

This is awesome!! =)

I'm a total n00b... I've got Mike's book and the Maya Fundamentals class from 3DBuzz and that's it user added image I can't wait to see what I can come up with!

No texturing, eh... sweet... though bonus points for texturing... decisions decisions...

it is very open to opinion and interpretation. The main goal is to try to create a mood that fits the topic.

no real measuring stick in this regard. The point is to give you motivation to learn and improve, no matter where your skill is currently.

This contest interests me, however, say I use Silo (polygons all the same, just a tad faster with Silo) for the modelling or Zbrush for the detailing/texturing, but I UV map and render in Maya, would that get me disqualified?

Don't know if I'd be willing to limit my arsenal really.

But Photoshop is still in right? It's technically an outside app and technically you can texture inside of Maya.

It's preferred that the majority of the work be done within the 3 apps of the Simply sites.

Photoshop is of course allowed with no problems.
