Paint Program

I am learning Maya with Gonomon DVDs, and many questions I need answered are not addressed. I bought several books on Maya, but none of them are very good.

My question is, sometimes I accidently hit the number 8 key when I am reaching for 7 to turn-on the lights. When I hit 8, a paint program opens and I can't figure out how to turn it off. I usually go back to a four view and that gets rid of it, but it is still running in the background and eating up my RAM memory.

How do you turn off the paint program?

"8" paint fx is not a stand alone program, so i don't think it's still in memory, it's just a feature in maya,
but if u do not want it loaded when u run maya, u can disable it, by going to
window>setting/prefs>preferences>
and in the last category where it says "Module" u can uncheck paintfx so it does not "eat up ram" when u start maya.

If that 8 key gets to be annoying, just disable in your Hotkey preferences.

Pressing "8" again will turn it off. Or should, anyway.
