parent constraints flips 180 in y

i have a piece of geometry which i got by duplicating the original, scaling it in -z, freezing transforms, reversing normals, center pivot, freezing transforms again and then deleting history

when i use a parent constraint (parenting translate and rotate, and mainting offset and giving a weight of 1) on this piece of geometry it flipps 180 in y (it says so in the channel box) and i have no idea why.

i did resolve it by building the geometry from a plane, but it takes a long time and so isn't exactly very practical.

why would a piece of geometry rotate 180 in y when the transforms are frozen and the history deleted?

EDIT:
actually never mind about that, turns out i didn't freeze transforms on the groups

that's a "Ch" pronounced as a "K"
