Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Render TIMe

Hello all,

I have a P4 3.06GHz, geforce4 ti 4300 card and 512mb ram.... and build a toilet and sink room w/ texture... it's been a day and a half and still going... to render the 320x240 600 frames.... Is this normal? how long do you guys usually wait to be render?

Thank you...

Depends on what your render and scene settings are. For instance if you use a lot of lights with ray traced shadows or Final gather set to 0.0 0.0 1000, it can stall maya and not do anything at all. it is very important to keep your scene neat and orderly and set your rendering globals to exacts instead of letting maya determine the best settings.

Yeah irontick is right on.

Perhaps you can post your render settings, and maybe a still from the animation, so we can see the quality. There are so many factors that affect render time, so we need some more info to answer your question accurately.

to me this seems to be taking too much time to render with your hardware. check the render log and see what is the most time consuming part when rendering a frame.

Well, it took about 2 days to render 560 frames here at work. A little more complicated scene, though. user added image

wow..McKinley..same system configuration? right now, render so far 70 frames....and just completed 2 days..and still going hmm..do you think texture affects render time? the only texture i think that might take long is the chrome shader that i've downloaded and used on the pipes only....the rest is just blinn shape colors....and the animation part is mostly the camera moving along a path...

try it with default materials. it might be the tessellation part which is taking the time. and btw, do you have shadows on?

2 days = 48 hours = 2880 mins
2880mins / 600 frames = 4.8 mins per frame = 4mins 48 secs per frame. sounds awful lot to me considering what you have in the scene...

how many lights do you have there?
