render hair in mental ray

how do you render hair made with paint fx in mental ray

Go to : panel

Modify > Convert : Paint effects to Polygons or Nurbs or
Curves.Try yourself for best solution..

If I remembercorrectly the newer versions of maya render paint effects, other than the I could only suggest the above

i did that but the hair looks like crap when i rendered in mental ray im using maya 7 this is before i converted

try upping the render settings, looks like you might be redering with FG, if so up the number of rays.

that will not affect my render times and slow down the machine

I was just suggesting IF you were using final gather, up the number of rays, no use final gather.

nope final gather doesnt work still getting the same crappy images from before
does anyone here actually use paint FX to make hair???

Yes I do, I dont convert it to polys though, just leave it as paint FX, Ive not had a problem with it.

It might be because youve converted it. Does it look better with the software render?

with software it works perfectly but the problem is im using maya fast skin so if i do render with maya software it shows the hair but not the skin so im totally stuck here if you get my dilema

Composite it, render the hair in software and the head in mental ray.
