NES 8-bit controller

I made this Nintendo 8-bit controller. Modelled in Maya and rendered in Maxwell. All polys as you can see on the wireframe screenshot.

Thanks guys.

I think Maxwell is awesome. It's more intuitive to render a scene. For this scene I set up three lights, basic 3-point lighting. Then it's more about to tweak the materials than to worry about Final Gather settings, Global Immunation, photons etc. etc. Haven't used it for very long however so I can't say much more. The drawback is of course the time it takes to render. This one took 21 hours. However it looked pretty good after just 8 hours, just a tad too noisy for my taste. So making a animation using Maxwell isn't very realistic unless you got a big render farm...

One feature that I really like is that when the render is finished it is saved in Maxwells own file format. This file format includes huge amount of data about cameras, lights etc. that can be changed afterwards without re-rendering. You can increase or decrease the strength of the light soruces, or even turn them off. This is great for fine tuning the lighting in a scene. The following pictures are the same render as the one before, just changed the lights afterwards.

Now thats great work!

The tweaking of the lights post seems like a great idea and could possibly make the long render times well worth the wait for "tweakablity" after.

Love the material for the cord and the buttons they look bang on!!

Hehe... yeah, maybe I will model the main unit too.

I got two computers, I did all the work on my main computer and then rendered on my webserver. That computer has 1.5 Gb RAM and some kind of AMD 2400+ (maybe 2200+).
