2 early problems with walk cycle tut

Hi, 1st of all thanks for all the great tutorials!

At the start of the walk cycle tutorial I try to move the feet and the rest of the skeleton moves to an average of the right and left foot position. Looking into the problem I found the UpDown handle has an expression attached to cause this.
Should I be deleting this expression initially? I can see it will have uses later.

If I do delete this expression and continue with the tutorial, the next step is to move the Root handle down to bend and the legs should bend as they are now apart. However all this seems to do is to move the entire skeleton including the feet downwards.

Is there something I 'm missing?

Thanks for your time

You have to put the option on for sticky ik handels. That rig was done in maya 4.5=).

To get the Iks to work right you select the ik handel, hit control A> find Ik handel attributes> find stickness> make sure its has sticky selected.

That should do it.
