How do I fix this?

I know it looks horrible, horrible isn't the word more like pure crap but I'd like to keep going and fix it. I know it's a geo disaster and I plan on straighting most of the edges I can but is their a way to fix the distortion or tesalation? UV mapping, which I don't know how to do yet? I'm really frustrated with my modeling skills, or I should say lack of.

Do you mean the hard edges? You need to smooth the normals.
