Head Modeling - Book / detailed commercial Tut?

Hello there!

I've been trying to model a human head or a whole human character for some time now, but every single ime I started a project like this I simply failed.
I did not find a tutorial I was able to follow, I guess I am just too stupid for it... user added image

As you can see on my little collection of renderings I've already done here https://markus1986.tripod.com/index.htm I am familiar with all the maya basics I guess, although I might need a bit futher help in Sub-Divs and the joint-set maybe, but my skills until now are just in non-organic modeling and I want to change that now user added image

I've seen the head-tut in the VIP area and am thinking about purchasing it, but then still there would be missing the rest of the body..

So, is there a book out there that deals with modeling a human step by step for Maya4.5?

Best Regards and thanks in advance user added image

Hi!

How long is the Tutorial-Video in total? Is it really so easy to follow and without big jumps like and helpfull guides like "Now split-polygon and model the rest of the cube until you're happy with the face" user added image ? Still thinking about it .. user added image
But please remember, I would love to get a Tutorial on a complete character including the hands, legs, and the rest of the body user added image

Best Regards

yes its easy - there are still aslo a few parts for mike to do on it but another 2 parts will maybe cover it - then we will start to work on the body.

@mtmckinley : Your Tutorials are great, i'd love to see one on creating a realistic human bodyuser added image

I was just a few hours ago so inspired by your Tut on creating a realistic water flow effect and am now trying to do the stargate Wormhole and outburst with my newly acquired knowledge user added image
Thanx for that! user added image

Please have a look at my thread regarding this issue in the Effects Forum section, I encountered a little problem, maybe you could help me there? user added image

maya 4.5 savvy book has a nice tutorial to model, animate, texture a human boy. it's intermediate and uses nurbs, polys and subdivs.
I'm doing it atm and it's very good I must say.

i dont like book tutorials, or even text tutorials, the video tutorials on this site surpass all tutorials i've ever seen.

they are so good because you can see it being done. which is great.

I bought it at amazon. and very glad that I did!
although it's not extremely detailed in covering every single aspect of a tool, it's more like: "here's the stuff u'll be using a lot, so this is how it works, now try this excersice to get the hang of it."
wich imo is good. also, it doesn't cover fur, cloth and live.

if you want total coverage of the program I suggest you read the help files, but that'll probably take you about a yearuser added image

btw, I agree video tuts are better than written ones. however having a book of the program next to you is as important as being member of a good forum like this one.

Amazon book deals

I got the Maya Savvy book from Amazon. Amazon sells used books. I got the $49 book for $28 and it was in perfect condition. Just an idea....
