whats wrong with my mental ray?

Something strange started happening with my files the other day and I can't figure out what to do. I would go to batch render my scene and maya would automatically save a temporary file with whatever name i called it before, followed by some random number. Then I would say render completed when nothing has happened. I notice this is happening on even my older files so it must be a software problem and not a file problem. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks in advance.

mentalray always saves a temporary file when rendering is started. Why you're not getting any output is something different. Check your render globals, and make sure that your project directory is set properly.
