Changing Lightning Color

Im creating a lightning effect for a project. The problem that I have is that I can't seem to change the color of it. I tried changing the color value in the attribute editor but the color is locked. I went to the help menu and it says that in the option box you can change it thru an RGB option but it;'s not there. I tried everything but nothing seems to work. How do you go about changing it?
