Fatal Error in Maya!! Please Help!

Hello, I am having a reoccuring problem in Maya 7. I am able to open any scene, but when I try and translate objects or try and go into transparent mode, I get the following error:

"Fatal Error. Attempting to save in C:/...", followed by a temp folder in Documents and Settings

When I close that window, it freezes for about 10 seconds, and I get this:

"Runtime Error! Program: C:\ProgramFiles\ALias\Maya7.0\bin\maya.exe

R6025 - pure virtual function call"

I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice, nad tried opening different scenes, but I always get this error. Any suggestions? My system specs are as follows:

Dual 3.4GHz Xeon Processors, 800MHz FSB
3GB DDR2 PC3200 RAM
nVidia Quadro FX4500 PCI-E 512MB Video Card
(2)500GB HDDs, in RAID 1
Windows XP Pro w/SP2

ANy help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello.

It seems that your problem is not that uncommon judging from a quick search in Google. I have never encounted this error message - I use 6.5 but it seems that this error message has many of causes and is probaly a pretty generic error.

But your problem is a bit strange. Why would Maya try to write to the HD when you try to translate objects and go into transparent mode? Is is something to do with Maya having a problem writing to the virtual memory or its own temp files? I have no idea.

I would recommend that you check your video card drivers, I remember that some other graphics app had the same error message and they traced it back to Microsoft's expertly written Open GL implementation.

Check your DLL files for corrupts as errors with RAM and HD and do a AV, spyware scan - I heard that they could cause this. And have you tried reinstalling your OS from a clean disk? If Maya ain't broke but Windows is, reinstalling Maya won't do a thing.

Also it would be helpful to everyone if you could post some error logs, if there are any.

Hope this is of some help.

Actually, I got it figured out on Friday. Seems it was the vid driver, which I had just updated a few days earlier. It was supposed to be an apporved driver, but oh well, seems as though that isn't the case. Anyway, thanks for your help. I really appreciate it!
