Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

UVs Blurry

Hey guys, so Im trying to make a simple house, and I took some reference images off the web and found some I liked, so I modeled and used some textures, but for some reason its blurry in Maya. Heres a screenshot of a clear version in PS, then a blurry in Maya. How do I make this more clear? I know it has somethin to do with resolution but im not sure how to change/fix it.

Are you using layered textures? What are the dimensions of the texture you're painting? Have you set filtering to "None" in the file texture node? Your UV shells are also quite spaced out. If you rearrange them, each shell can have more space within the dimensions.

What are layered textures? The dimensions are 600 by 600 and i dont know how to set the filtering.

At 600x600 you're going to run into blur. That's 600x600 pixels that have to be stretched over your model, with interpolations between. Typical textures are powers of two, so 512x512, 1024x1024, 2048x2048, etc. Productions are usually running around 2048x2048 to 8096x8096.

For this house, I would suggest at least a 2k map (2048x2048) (Unless you're working on a game project, in which case 1024x1024) Obviously the more detail in your texture map, the larger it'll have to be. At the resolution you're working at, the computer is just guessing at what's in-between those pixels.

Don't just scale up your image either. You need to grab your textures from their source again. Remember to always shrink things down, not make things bigger. Computers can't add detail that isn't there to begin with user added image

Go to your file node, and next to the word "filtering" set the drop down to "none"
