Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Better Version

Here's another update. Still trying to work on the glow. I'd like to make hte color of the glow a little different but i'm not sure how. I'm also having trouble controlling the brightness of it. Since the glow is the same as the displacement map i used but applied to the blinn for hte ring it seems like it's glowing hte whole ring, not just the writing. if anyone can let me know how to adjust the glow on just the letters as well as make it a different color i'd appreciate it.

CPTGAME,
you did not state wither this is poly or nurbs? if this is nurbs then you should disregard the whole UV mapping suggestion unless you convert to POLY (I would!) otherwise you will need to create your elf text in a paint prog like PS or illustrator then create a layered shader, import your text on an alpha and finally map to your mesh (if this is mumbo jumbo then start downloading texture tuts!) you can then use the texture placement tool(nurbs only) to get the texture in place.

my $0.02

err ignore that thread, looks like youve got it nearly sussed, though you are bleeding your displacement into the front of the ring, is this intentional??

you have text on the inside & outside of the ring, either that is intentional i.e. you mapped both inside and out side or you mapped your complete mesh(instead of faces) and added the displacement/bump map, this way you get the dis map bleeding into the front of your mesh (hope that makes sense user added image

throw a dirty great big rock into an active volcano! user added image lol

excelent ring dude, looks like you have it down to a T,
(not quite sure about that chain though) perhaps the chain could be on the flat surface, like it had been dropped on a table.

but over all user added image

nice!!!

hey nice modeling and texturing too...
it's the lighting i'm worried about...also the rendering....

why not try mentalRay? i know you'll have better results about the glow...

but overall....nice work..you only need some few adjustments...
aight?!
