How can I change rendering settings while I'm rendering?

Just curious. I'm rendering a scene that's 2000 frames and I am really pressed for time, is there any way to cut it short or anything like that without totally losing what I have already rendered?

You can cancel the maya batch render in the task manager if you just need to stop it, that will keep the images already rendered.
