Graph Editor help?

Hi guys! Ran into a snag. Am having to use the graph editor and I understand the curves and etc, however, the issues I am having is that I am "breaking" the tangent and then and trying to "Free Tangent Weight". I think that is what I am needing to do.

It turns the tangent into "Scalable"? I can have more flexibility of the curve with this activated right?

Anyways. I try to break it and I cannot adjust the tangent line outwards or inwards.. just up and down around the pivot vert on the curve.

any ideas?

You have to make the curve weighted first. Under curves, select weighted tangents. Then do free tangent weight. Hopefully that works for you.
