Light Fog Problems

I've been experimenting with fog in maya and I cant seem to get it to work as I want it to.

I'm trying to get the fog to streak through the large gaps in the church window, but when I enable raytrace shadows the fog seems to disappear.

Thanks in advance for any helpuser added image

Not sure as I haven't played with the fog as much as I would have liked to, but try the Dmap shadows insted of the raytraced.
