Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Hey mc-fleury - if you are trying to make him look more aggressive, some creases or furrows in his brow might help. I think you also need to tilt the eye brows more in the middle.

Hey Mc-fleury

Looks good, so I will answer the questions you have asked: When creating maps ie:bump color etc they will not distort as such as its the geometry thats moving and not the uvs, so providing those are good all will be fine.
As for the expression for more anger pull faces in the mirror to see how things move, I do this all the time for character blends, so seeing this and your question it stuck out a mile and that was that the top lip needs to be raised more over the teeth so the gums are exposed as with the lower but not as much, though the lower lip curls slightly outwards when it reveals the lower teeth in this manner.

Ive also attached Kong himself for probably a better example
Hope this helps
Jay

Geeeeh, nice cam choice Jay user added image

Hi Mac FLeury,

yes, raising top lip is great way to the attitude you want :attn:
Maybe a bit more irregular. One lip's side more than the other.
Maybe the same, as on ref, for one eyebrow.
Last detail would be in some way doing the same at jaw aticulation. More power in there.
Some more anger details.

Well, some thoughts.
Nice goin' ... keep it up user added image

Your asking what can make my model better. You asked what can make him look meaner/aggressive.

I did a quick composite sketch of your render with what I think I would do if I were in your position.

So take a look at it and study the differences.

I remember this guy from Pixar talking about how the only way they could get the fish to really show emotion, in Finding Nemo, was to really push that brow area.

The question who have to ask yourself is...

Do I want a real gorilla or do I want a realistic looking gorilla?

If its the latter then you can take a gorilla and make him look really PO'd and yet still look real.

Cheers:attn:
