The ground is a simple polygon plane with a few vertices pulled, then smoothed over.
I used the Grass Shader from the Maya Shader library.
The picture is going to be my backdrop, I hope to have a raindeer or two plus a santa Spirit if I get time. (Maybe a Rum & Coke is a better Spirit)
