One quick "create polygon tool"-question

I've heard you have to draw the create polygon tool counter-clockwise. Why is that?

where did you hear that? And have you tried not doing that? I don't think that is the case.

Heard it in a video tutorial: How to model a human head. Made by a guy called Jason Welsh. Most of the other things he showed me was good, so... I just supposed this was true. But maybe not?

well to put this rumor to rest i just entered maya, and wielding the 'create polygon tool' i was able to create a polygon in both the clockwise AND the counter-clockwise directions. both showed up, and they look fine.

But still, maybe, in certain situations, it could be dangerous to create a clockwise-polygon with that tool. I think I have to send that guy a mail and ask him.

hehehe i don't think dangerous is quite the right word... makes it sound like a clockwise-created poly might make your house blow up or something user added image

Ive come across this ages ago when I began learning Maya but its not a case of which way to draw it.

Its just dependant on the face normals, so if your model is flipped just reverse the faces, then all should be fine.
