Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Thanks for the feedback, hadn't really tried to light it yet, just stuck a couple of spots in.

I'll get a better set up in the next update - the planes on your lights, are they incandescence mapped?

cheers,

gubar

No there back panels, with a reversed light on to it with a high light source beamed on to it.

Ye iv learned that setting up a good light from start helps you improve your sss shaders, or even on any other project.

I now it sound like a last job to do, but it helps me in improving the textures. after the lights are in place, also setting up a rendercam is a key feature of your scene, unless your making a tpose model.

So your using reflected light rather than direct, like in the movies. What kind of material are they, settings etc? Still using my basic lights, will tweak it later/tomorrow. Had a better set up when I was tweaking the sss along with a tutorial.

Got a couple more images here, been tweaking again in the last hour or so, I think they're getting better - moved them further back in the head, closer together, but I'm still not too happy with the shape. Look ok in one view, but the 3/4 doesn't convince.]#

Again, feedback appreciated.

thanks,

gubar

Tweaked the eyes some more, stuck in a basic 3 point lighting system using directional lights.

Need to work on the sss, but for now I'm still tweaking the eyes. They are getting there but still don't look right.

Crits and comments please,

thanks,

gubar

Low angle, think the eyeball is scattering too much light just now:

Just a quick update - textured his eyebrows and given the a slight bump. Stuck some planes onto the right eye which will be textured as eyelashes - might give modeling the a go too.

Trying hair just now.

Don't like it to be honest. It's poly planes, textured with an alpha.

Any advice on how to improve would be welcome, though at the moment I think he's probably just gonna stay bald.

cheers,

gubar

well he really is starting to shape up.
If you want to do hair you should probably grab some tutorials on creating maya hair, it looks a lot better then most flat textures, unless you are restricted to a poly count.
The lips are killing the image for me though. too much like a blow up doll or something, it dulls the expression and the mood created by the so far very nice texture.

Keep up the good work!
