Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

what program is this?

my friend told me about this program where you take a side picture and a front picture of any object and it will digitally create a perfect model out of it. Was wondering if you guys knew what program that might be or some more details?

i got a program called "Face gen" that can do that with, you guessed it, Faces! Its not 100% perfect but it is really helpful cause it exports straight to Maya with blend shapes, Uv's and custom textures. it is quite cool cause it only needs a front picture to work.

3dsom is pretty good at stuff like that, you need 15 images, and the topologys awful but it will do it

I just got this, it's pretty cool, too bad I couldn't lower the poly count though a little bit before bringing it into maya.

what programme, face gen or 3dsom?

Ive been trying to fine a reseller for 3dsom, its a bit pricey, might atttempt to make a plug in for maya to do it..... without the textures

yea i tried face gen too. It works really well actually. I recommend adding in a side picture to make it look closer to your friend.
you can also have fun with it by putting in low res smiling pictures of your friends and watch the calculations turn them into monsters or something.

the only thing I don't like about facegen is although it does a really nice texture and nice uv layout, it doesn't texture enough of the side of the face, like it should do all the way up to the ear, but it cuts it off at a certain point and doesn't look as good as it could... but then I guess thats where going into photoshop and editing would come in handy.

edit: this is what I mean by the texture doesn't do enough of the side of the face
