Walk cycle up a hill?

Hi,

I'm trying to animate a character walking up a hill that has varying levels of steepness, but i'm not sure how to go about it. my previous walk cycle was done by animating it on the spot, then adding it into the trax editor then moving it. However i've only done this once before, and I was wondering if it's possible to modify the animation from the trax editor so that the walk cycle "template" in the trax editor still works, but then can I move the feet controls to make the feet touch the ground?

Sorry if that was confusing to understand. But essentially what i'm asking is what's the best method to animate walking up a hill - using the trax editor, keyframing stuff manually to ensure the feet touch the ground and just cycle the frames or another method entirely?

Thanks!
