Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

To me it looks a bit funny having veins underneath... bone? I know it's fictional, but it still doesn't quite look right. Keep it up!

What technique did you say to create those smooth, curved, patterny lines that go around the body? They look really nice.

@stwert thanks..not skull.flesh.face not finished (need to fill in nose and holes).
ben hobden i exported model/subD it in Z..then painted lines and created new groups from the painted lines..then inflated just the new line group created.

"painted lines and created new groups from the painted lines"....

as in 'from polypaint' in the polygroups tab? Or painted a mask?

oh yes ..sorry was rushing when i wrote that..
I painted "mask" then polygrouped from masked area..then groupsloops it to smooth the edges..then cranked up masked by polygroups to 100%.. then I did the crtl+shift thing on that new group to isolate it then in the deformation section I inflated the new group slightly so that it is raised above the body user added image

user added image Thankyou for filling in the blanks there. Ive not got into using groups loops much yet. What you describe looks like a nice technique, I reckon with some playing and patience you could do alot of nice work with it, it certainly looks good on your model.
