2009 to 2012, everything rotated

i'm very new to maya. at school i'm working on 2009, but at home, i've got 2012. whenever i open a 2009 file in 2012, everything in the scene is rotated 90 degrees. is there any way to avoid this? if not, what would be the best solution to get things rotated back?

thanks

you probably have your origin axis set differently at school. Go Window>Settings/Preferences>Preferences>Settings...then have a look at your up axis...by default it is set to Y...you may have set it to Z by accident.
