mib_lights

I'm just trying to wrap my head around the use of MR lights as custom light shaders in standard maya lights.

So as I understand they are necessary when using mr shaders like parti volume and the new mila shader, but there are gaps in my knowledge, for example how could i adjust intensity with an infinite or mib_spotlight? I noticed that these nodes made there way into the legacy folder in the hypershade so am i to conclude that these are outdated lights?

if anyone could offer their thoughts or point me in the direction of some decent tutorials on workflows for mayas new lights, then id be very grateful!
