Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

sweet - I would like to have the MEL scripts to toggle just to know how - I'm not a MEL expert.

you're amazing cali, i really would like to learn CPS, every has some cool stuff come out of it. Can't wait to see the final either!

I have adjusted alot of skin weights, since I had some penetrating geometry, but it was easily fixed with Maya's paint weights tool. I also adjusted the pose a bit, and did this rendering:

that is a lot better. the shoulder is weighted correctly now. only thing, the belly is a bit too flat, like you have no body under the shirt. (i mean you dont have a body under the shirt in maya, but i think you know what it mean user added image)

THis is great, i dont see what baby duck is talking about.. as you see his pecks on the upper half, and then his body structure comes in from his ribs.. that is common, and if he says hes that skinny, or built/skinny.. then thats totally possible. You just might want to fix that overhang on the shirt where the belt is.. it fooled me for a while thinking it was flab.. now i know its just a overhang of the shirt.. but maybe reduce it a bit user added image.. other than that, looks amazing! One other thing, are you going to add the zipper to the pants?

I would add a zipper to the pants if I had the time for texturing, but with me having been hospitalized this month I don't have the time for it. Btw.. I am okay again .. user added image

And yeah I had some trouble with the weights on the shirt .. but I am gonna try to fix it.

Thanks guys..

I really have learned alot in this challenge. These are just some of the things I have learned alot about:

- Organisation of the hierachy - My hierachy is really clean and all grouped under 1 node.

- Skin weight painting - I have always had problems with this, and smooth skin binding has never been my friend, but it is now.

- General skeletal setup - My skeleton rocks, I can move the jaw freely, everything is animatable and easily selectable

so in general I am really happy with this model. Sadly I was hospitalized for a week with extreme low blood count, so I kind of lost the week I was going to use for texturing and UV'ing, so I concentrated on the rigging and character setup where I figured I could learn something.

And I did..
