Help!! crazy inkblot thingees!

EDIT: fixed it! it was a final gather gimmick. I just reset final gather and everything worked just like a clam.
I was working away, and I was Happy like a Clam.

then I rendered and got this! My renders have all looked normal up to now. I am using mental ray with GI and FG. has this happened to anyone else?

I got this error in the output window, but I looked at my normals and they all seem norm.. er... regular.

PAR 0.n error 021105: cannot start thread 9
PAR 0.n error 021102: cannot start thread
RCFG 0.4 warn 542002: angle between normal and geometry normal more than 90 degrees

Thanks in advance
