how do i animate a ribbon

how do i animate a ribbon??????????
I have an object in the midle of my project and I want the ribbon to pass in the front of it in a waveform

well, i guess what you could do is make a nurbs ribbon and animate a transparency map over it....

use bones with an ik spline handle. and turn the curve into a soft body.
