Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world

Exporting to .Obj

im in maya 8.5 unlimited and when i try to export an OBJ file it works, but then when i try to open it again in another program like realflow, nothing comes up in the program and even when i try to bring it back in MAya still nothing comes up. anyone know what the problem might be? thanks

try exporting with all objects in polys - not nurbs/subd's
