Mr Ugly

This started out as a doodle, but I cannot seem to leave it alone... not sure how its gonna end up. Thing is I just love making characters up as I go along.

Anyway here he is, I'm calling him Mr Ugly… for the moment!

Looking good, I'd give the belly a bit more weight to it and maybe add some pieced nipples for comedy factor, other than that I really like it!

Update

After a bit of a break I thought I'd do a little bit more. I thought I try and make this character more realistic than anything I have done before just to see if I can do it. Looks like I have got me work cut out then user added image

Well I have done a close up seeing as the last image didn't look that different… I have smoothed it as well just to see how it is looking.

Not only does he seem to have a Brucey chin but he needs ALOT of work to get him how I want him user added image

Ugly Mug!

Just a little bit more - I am starting to like what I see. Needs more work around the eyes though. Please ignore the seam, I am still working with only half my model and an instance on the other side.

Anyone know of any Tuts that would help speed up my poly modeling using tips & tricks?

hi I think that you're really starting to get a good grip on where this model is going. I love that wrinkle along the top of the forehead (compare it with the render before and it adds so much character!.

I think you should fatten up the lips a bit, especially the to one, how about making the bottom lip more bulbous and protruding? Watch the cuts into the side of the face near the back of the jaw bone. What are they for? I think they could cause you probs when you come to smoothing. user added image

Love the nose! Keep it going and get loads of detail in there!!!! user added image

Little Extras

Well, here's an update with a few little tweaks around the eyes and lips. Still plonding on!

BTW thanks for the crits Alan, much appreciated! You work for Framestore right can you tell me what the hours are like? I mean it's hard enough getting your foot in the door, but I always wonder how hard it is to stay there user added image

generally we work from 9-6.30 so basically 9 hours a day, but it can get to working stupid hours e.g. 12-14 is not uncommon especially towards the end of the projects. The only way to stay in the job is to work your arse off and show willingness to work hard you dont have to be amazingly good (well not as a junior anyways) but you have to show potential and be prepared to ask a lot of stupid questions and just keep learning.... that's all i can say really user added image

Ps. oh yeah and luck too, lots of luck! user added image

WOW! I don't think my missus would like the idea of me working those hours user added image ... even if I was lucky user added image

On top of those hours I would have to put on 3 hours travelling a day due to living in the sticks.

That means I would get up at about 6.45 leave home about 7.30 work till 6.30 and get home about 8.00, hello darling, have tea, oh god it's nearly bed time user added image and work some weekends...

This might be very rewarding professionally but I think I would really develop square eyes and never go diving - SCUBA DIVING - that is :p!!!

I think I'll stick to doing it as a hobby user added image
