did you use the software renderer? i suggest you try to learn how to render better

lol joopson are u serious this is a very good render this is supposed to be a cartoony feel to it and thats what hes created i wouldnt use mental ray for cartoony renders either myself.

the bricks and stuff... well... it doesnt stick out at all. Try bump mapping or something

and yeah... its far too clean for a city rooftop

and I agree with Joopson's first comment:

Mental Ray is the gem of all renderers: Learn to use it!

I can see what some of the others are saying - it does look a little clean to me, but I think you have done a good job so far. Well done for getting back into maya.
