Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world

just when i tought mental ray was the answer...

anybody knows why mental ray screws subdivision surfaces that have 1 or more levels of refinement like this example? and more important is there a way to stop him from doing it?

i refined mine a few times and still renders ok!

Mine renders subd's only if they contain 100% quads. No triangles. Hope it helps, otherwise just convert to polys.

to fix the problem. collapse Hierarchy should work. level 1
