hardest part

this is an opinion for anyone n00bie or vet in maya but what do you feel is the hardest part of making a character (or anything), start to finish. For me its UV mapping.

For me its hair..it still hasn't really clicked for me after 10 years ..lol

ah i have yet to really mess with hair or cloth or anything really dynamic :p

cloth can also be tricky but in my opinion realistic hair is harder,guess i needed to go to hairdresser school ..lol

Hardest part of making a character is everything....I mean this from the point of view of making it convincing whether its a cartoon or a more realistic style. Its not just one technical aspect, its everything.

The problem is with characters is that the minute one goes on a forum, everyone pounces and all of a sudden becomes an expert in the making of them in 3d...its such an opinionated subject, and the majority of those people have no clue as to how hard it is to actually do. Its just hard to do no matter how many times you do it...period

Jay - I'm not saying that's not true but I'm just asking what in your opinion is the hardest/most annoying part for each individual when making something. I know the entire process is difficult but there are some areas that come easier to others and vise versa.

I know mate exactly what you mean....my answer is as above. I dont take any of it for granted because any part can trip you up no matter what.

Im surprised nobody has actually said making the eyes is difficult...I guess you all make convincing eyes LOL

For me I found ears to be tricky, but I find good hair is most difficult. As for UV's I don't find them hard just exceedingly tedious and boring.

I believe what makes good character modeling hard is that as humans, from birth, we are all programmed to recognize people.

Though very few could pick up a hammer and chisel or brush and canvas and carve or paint a convincingly good character. We are all experts from birth at recognizing anything that is amiss in any representation of a human figure.

So as a character modeler your work must be near perfect as even the most minute flaw will be detected even by the least artistic person.

I'm not talking about just human characters though, it could be animals and such too.
