opacity in materials

Hi, I´m trying to make a material with a movie (a black and white .avi) as the opacity map in the Transparence channel, using a Phong material. I have done this in 3dMax without any problem, and I was able to see the animation in the material while playing the animation in the vieport. But I can´t get it in Maya. It does not show me the opacity map from the .avi file in the viewport.
I´m using Maya cause it shows me Transparent Shadows in the viewport and I need to syncrhonize the animation between objects shadows. But I only get it from static images as opacity map, and I need to make it with a movie file!
Is there any way to get what I need?

Thanks!

Not entirely sure, I always use an image sequence rarther than a movie file.

I think that good old Mike Mckinley, https://www.mtmckinley.net/ has a video tutorial on using .avi's as textures, that might help.

Cheers
