making lights

hi all a im noob attempting to model my first car.......now im about to model the lights for my car but i have no idea how im going to make them transparent any ideas

The transparency attribute is for the material applied to the model, not the model itself, so when you make the glass material for the lights you can set its translucence to whatever you think works best. Play around with it a bit.

When in doubt, delete history and freeze transformations.
