Area Lights, GIJoe and GI

Me again,

Got a Q for you all! user added image I posted a Q thru the Maya mailing list and either they're all asleep or no one wants to answer my post - I can always depend on you great folks! user added image I bought the Maya 4.5 Handbook and noticed a section in the lighting chapter the mentions using area lights in creating fake radiosity. Though it is very time prohibitive to use area lights, I like its soft lighting capabilities. Any of you use area lights to light your scenes?

Also, how would area lights work with GIJoe? Also also, anybody here use RealFakeGI? Thanks! user added image
