Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Attaching polygons

Is there an easier way of attaching the other side of a model then merging vertices? is there some attach polygon command that can attach closes vertices or somthn?

What is it you are trying to do, I am not sure I understand what you are going for?

just combine the two halves(polygons>combine) select all the vertices of the split, and open the merge vertices options, and lower it to like .1 or .o1, adjust until they merge to the right ones!
