How to go back to polygon view while rendering

hey! i created an object in maya and then i went to window - render editor - mental ray - approximation editor and clicked on create to get a sub div view like you get when u press 3, but how do i get out of that view.... any help would be pleasing

I don't understand completely. Do you want to get out of smooth preview in the workspace? If so just hit 1 on the keyboard.

If you don't want the object to be rendered as the smooth preview then you need to detach it from the MR subdiv approx node. (Select the object, Windows>Hypergraph connections, and delete the connection to the object).
