Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

10 sec clip "Gollum"

10 sec clip "Gollum"
Blocked in the initial poses and started to refine the animation. Haven't touch the curves yet. The only part I am unsure of is when he says " I needs it". Seting takes place with a parent and a kid outside a toy store.

Good start kassun... only real crit at the moment is his movments are a bit floaty try and speed them up and make some of his movements snappier.

Thanks guys, Here is the rig it is for Maya 5 and 6. Easy to install and I have not found a flaw with it yet. I am using Maya 6 so instead of editing the scripts I just made a 5.0 prefs folder and put the scripts in it. Works like a charm.

an update. Changed his hand movements and finaly put in the holds for his poses. I sped him up as he walk's to the store window. I haven't reworked his arms as he walks up yet. That will come in the next post. Thanks for your help. Also I am rethinking the camera angles.

Here is an update. I Haven't done anything with the parent. I should have the kid done in the next few days when i have some time off.

Rip it apart and let me know what i am doing right or wrong. It's the only way I am going to get better.

i like it a lot, it conveys a lot of emotion. i have a few questions since i have my first rigging/animation project going on...did you use the trax editor at all? im having troubles starting a walk cycle from just standing still. did you even create a walk cycle? the way my character is rigged its difficult to get actual motion, cycles are easy but when it comes to actually moving him through a scene i have some problems..if you could tell me or point me in the direction of a good tutorial that would be awesome : ) great work dude, keep it up
