Will the Free Tutorials Really Help a Novice Like Me?

I can honestly say i do not know a darn thing about these programs and i wish i did. Will these free tutorials, when i complete them, really give me enough knowledge to make whatever it is i feel? and maybe animate it as well?

also can these free tutorials be done with Maya 5.0 Personal Learning Edition, because that's all i have -_-

Thanks in advance!

They don't go over a lot of advanced techniques (gotta leave something for VIP after all), but they do have a lot of very useful info.
