Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

I find I can work faster and produce better in max. The UI is alot more friendly aswell. It all comes down to personal preference, thou I sometimes use maya nurbs to model then export it to max and finish my model there. Max's nurbs are a disgrace. Everything else, mapping, texturing, skinning, animating, special FX, is all done in max.

Maybe it's cause they just bought them but Autodesk seems to be pushing Maya more than 3ds. After going through their website it seems like they might feel it is a stronger product. Plus it does run on windows, mac and linnux. I wonder if, since they are now owned by the same company if they will eventually be merged into one powerful 3d cross platform product.

this is a pretty pointless argument, as the answer is thus: it's not the application you use, it's the skills of the user that count. my personal preference is for max, as i find maxscript easier to use than melscript, and, in my opinion, max's polygon tools are more intuitive. that's not to say i don't recognise maya as a fantastic application, it's just my preference.

there are many pros and cons for each app, but essentially max is cheaper, and is only lacking maya's in-app fluid system (but then again, i like realflow more), and max's pflow is awesome. maya is pretty rocking when it comes to nurbs, they both have mental ray, and vray is much more than a newb's way of getting a good render.

besides, if you want to play application top trumps, my current application is houdini, so i win user added image

u gotta realise that 99.99 percent are in love with maya. Thou a small percentage aren't carried away with the majority and instead stand up to what they know is true despite the inloveness with maya. These are the ones that can think for themselfs and make their OWN opinions and conclusions. Max rocks. :attn:

yes autodeskt vs autodesk, it took the fun outta the original debates. Apperently nothing changes, well with max that is. Went to one of the roadshows they did in london and they said that it was still the same programmers up in Canada. Same building same everything. Just the name changed. Thou that was right after autodesk bought max. Its been sometime now... if autodesk ruins max... well there is always XSI... always did want to learn that.
