i'm pretty sure they're referring to whichever link keeps getting spammed across the board... i keep reporting it (one of the mods has gotta be getting sick of seeing my reports saying 'spam') and they keep disappearing so there's definitely progress...

he has removed his link. git

we were working late last night trying to finnish a project for today (sat) and while rendering i was telling a girl in work about my challange entry and how good the other the others were looking so she came here. in this thread she found a link which she thought was a image link (not regested user) , clicked on it and it asked to install some video codec. she did as she thought it was a update to are softwear. within minites it started to delete files from c:\. it then spread to 4 other machines b4 we knew what was going on.

as you can tell we were more than alittle pissed. luck though it did not get to the main server and we only lost about 1 hours work and some programs, (photoshop, zbrush). Our teck guy also got a bollicking about how safe the network was.

now i not mad at the mods here at all, and i still love this site but that guy - we will b having words.

heres hoping no more trouble on this useally peaseful site.

p.s - the work we done this week will be posted in the w.i.p after.

I had a total rebuild due to it. I got rid of the trojan, all it's exe's and dll's, but still you get the annoing popup stating that your machine is at risk.

After 2 hours of trailing throught the registry, C: D: and E: drives and all my network drives there was no sign. The trojan is called:

Gold Codec, it installs a fake peice of spyware called Virusbusters. Be aware please that the link is associated to a Briteny Spears porn clip (I presume this is the one her asstranged husband has threatened to realease). Once it opens you are asked to install a missing codec as tweety said. Even WMP looks for this codec, so the vid clip is a genuine wmp or avi file. Alas this is where the trouble starts.

I searched for removal software, and even that looked dodgy, so I took the choice of a rebuild. Safest way I thought.

The last poster to put the link up was Posterenceter32. I got the mail saying he had updated the link, but as Neo pointed out he has removed/deleted the post. The post simply contains the words:

wow and then the link under it, oh and this tubes signature.

Long post for me but I though you ought to know more about it, and how inconvenient it is. I would give it a Medium Risk , only due to the fact that it takes over your OS so well, otherwise it would be low. Mine didn't delete any files, but it would have if you run the spyware when it launchs and click clean. Basiclly the trojan plays on your own paranoia of spyware so you will run the app and removal what will be critial registry entries and OS Files.

Aviod this link on any site and can this Posterenceter32 be removed from the site please, or at least given some punishment (unless this account is also been hijacked) Damn Script Kiddies.

L8rs all

I've been removing and banning these guys every time I come by. Not sure why the site is suddenly being bombarded (SL and SMax were as well) but hopefully it'll pass. The spam at SL and SMax seems to have subsided for now, so hopefully will here as well.

I have no actual power here, other than deleteing the posts and "unregistering" the offending users, so I'm afraid that's all I can do.

Just don't click Britney Spears and Shakira porn links, I guess is all I can suggest. :p Seriously though, sorry you guys have had problems.

*grabs a pitchfork, torch and a length of rope*

Let's get 'em!!!

It happens, there's always someone out there who likes to be a pain in the rear. As long as something is being done about it, then we just have to work with what we got. FOrtunately I didn't get hit too hard with it.

It could have cost us the company if we were not quick enuff to stop it deleting the tec demo files.

Lucky thought the show went well and we got the go ahead to finnish the movie.

Well, can we ban the I.P. address, or is the I.P address not an issue for these people?

I hope I sound understandable.
