Vanishing textures

Whenever I convert a .3ds model to an .obj in Okino Polytrans the model converts fine, but the uv textures vanish leaving the model default grey. If anyone can help I may postpone my plans for world domination.

i believe since .obj is a generic 3d file type, it doesn't retain any extraneous information, just poly modeling. i'm not even sure if it can retain nurbs (or patch) information.

if anyone else knows more in-depth, feel free to chime in.

Not sure about that, when I've converted from maya to obj, it retains the texture information no problem, the only big problem is it doesn't hold rigging or animation data.

Seems to be working okay, now. Couldn't find the images. Changed some stuff; can now. Can't remember what I did: slept since. Cheers, anyhow.
