Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

severinianthony March/April

Allrighty, me thinks I'll have a go at this one. :p

I've felt like participating in a challenge for a while, but with school, that hasn't been too very possible, as I dedicate around 60-70 hours to homework each week...

However, for my Games: Modeling and Texture class, I am required to have done 3 models; two of which are going well, but the third has failed, and I've been looking for inspiration for a third.

Turns out I might be able to kill two birds with one stone :attn:

EDIT:

Of course, as per mtmckinley's guidelines, I won't be throwing the texture on the model for the challenge; I'll leave that for my class only user added image

Some of the things I've been looking at to help me in visual creation:

https://www.ethicalwares.com/images/weal.jpg

https://www.proki.org/images/m95d.jpg

https://www.swordsdirect.com/leather_trench_coats.jpg

https://www.straightshooters.com/pist...8multishot.jpg

As per the images, you can tell that I've gone down the route of the trenchcoat. You can also see that there's a lack of a head in both the model and the image planes; I'm working on incorporating a gas-mask-wearing head onto the model.

Yeah! A futuristic Luger (german standard pistol during WW2) user added image

The whole concept reminds a lot of Wolfenstein.

Will watch this one! Are you doing a male or female ?

In all truth, I've tried to (and will continue to try to) stay away from making it gender specific.

Much like in this image; is that a male or a female?! :angery:

EDIT:

I edited the second post to include the image of the "air pistol" I used to make the model.

I knew, in my mind, what I wanted, but I had no idea what to call it, so I couldn't look for it by name (I have no gun lore :p ). In the end, I managed to find it under the context of "air pistol."

If you google on "luger" you will see the likeness of your air pistol on the luger user added image

I really think you got something here! user added image

Oooh...luger's actually look pretty good; I might model one or two other variants, and see which one I like; thanks :attn:

My four classes are

Modeling and Animation 1 with Studio Max (learning to use Studio Max)

Games: Modeling and Texture (have a thread in the WIP section dedicated to that class; getting feedback on my models)

Particle Effects 1 (getting familiarized with Maya's particle awesomeness)

and 3D Organic Modeling (ZBrush sculpting; highly-realistic models)

You sure I shouldn't be spending that much time on homework? :p

If they were good enough for the german officers, they should be good enough for your model user added image

True, I especially like the long...what it is; muzzle? The forward-most part where the bullet comes out.

I might do the one at the far-right, second from the top; the one with the dark grey/black handle.

Right, while that first luger looked nice, I felt 1,404 faces was ludicris, so I pulled it down...looks decent enough for the competition's puropses; I was getting way too into it user added image
