yep - that's new york - that's the brooklyn bridge in the foreground - i see that view every day I go to work.

looks like you've made a great start mastone - this should be interesting.

There's a writer called Alan Weisman who has just written a book about what would happen to cities like New York if man was to just suddenly disappear off the face of the planet - how long it would take for the subways to flood and collapse - what would degrade and what wouldn't - haven't read it yet , but it sounds interesting...

have you seen any screen shots from "I am Legend" staring Wil Smith - thats a wiped out New York as well (seems the season for it) and may be a great reference for you.

Great work so far keep it up

thanks for the heads up tweety tunes, but i wanna do this my one way otherwise i will try to recreate another's (great) job.

I've started laying out uv's(i already did them but for some reason maya kept crashing which resulted in many do-overs), and ruffing in the texture(s).
First i want to texture everything with a basic color texture and later when i've textured everything and can see how well it works with each other i will start finetuning everything.
I'm not done with modeling everything (in case someone was wondering), but I don't want to lay out all the uv's at once in the end....
Here's my progress so far

Great stuff so far man, i am liking it a lot ...

Just a question, you know for your UV texture thing how it says digits like 1,2,3,4,5, etc ... is that some sort of default with Maya or is it a thing you have to download off the net? sorry if you don't understand me ...

Nah its not a built in maya one, you'll either have to make it or grab it form somewhere (or knock one up in Photoshop). Personally I only use the checker, good enough to see any stretching etc etc, although the colours look pretty.

The texture came with a cd that came with a book:p.
And i think it is quite handy you see the stretch a little better and can easily see if the uv's are flipped or not.
And thanks for the compliment

Progress has been a bit slow, mainly because i had some computerproblems, but here's the progress sofar;
I've redone the colors on the bridge, painted a base texture for the land and road and added an ocean.

The ocean looks nice. Did you just use the standard ocean shader on it?
