Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Almost done with the main part of the UVs, just have a few small parts to fix. Here's the current progress:

OK, here's the update for today. Hopefully, I'll be able to work on this tomorrow, but I don't think I'll be working on it Thursday or Friday.

This thing was a pain to UV map. I actually had to redo some parts and I wasn't very happy doing it. :p

Got the base colors down today. I'm having some problems, but I'll discuss them in my next post.

OK, I'm having an odd problem in Maya. I thought I could just restart Maya and it would go away, but I was wrong. This only happens in my viewport. I know I've seen this before, but I can't figure it out. Look at the pic and you'll see what I mean.

Oh yeah, I got that fixed. When I reloaded Maya it fixed it, but it kept on happening. Turns out I just needed to reload the texture.

Anyway, I should have an update today. Been kinda backsliding as I keep thinking of ways to do different things to it.

Almost finished laying out the base textures. I still have to tweak these a little to get them to match up around the creases. After I'm finished with the base textures, I'll be adding some more color into it, dirtying it up a bit, and messing with the material.

Does anyone know why this happens when I use the 3D paint tool? It's been so long, I forgot how to use it, so I might have gone about the wrong way setting it up.

OK, almost done with this! Still have some more texturing to do, but after that, all I have to do is duplicate it over and set it up for the composite. This is the time to shout out any crits you have.

nice job jr who - the only major problem i see is that the texture doesn't match at the middle.

Thanks, arran!

About that, I'm too lazy to dupe it over, cause I might change it. :p
