Rendering Basics

Does someone know a good resource for getting the basics on the standard Maya renderer?

My renders are coming out very crappy and would love to know how to fix them.

Thanks,
M

Quick tip - OPen Render Global Window by choosing Window>Rendering Editors>Render Globals. Change Presets in the Resolution tab to 640x480 for a larger render. Under Anti-aliasing quality, change Presets to Production Quality. If you're using raytracing, you should turn it on as well. Go to the Raytracing Quality tab and click the Raytracing box. Those are the main things that will help your render come out better.

Also, unless you are doing macro close-ups, you don't really need the "Multipixel Filtering" checked on.

So in the RG window, when you choose "Production Quality", look lower a bit, and UNcheck the "Multipixel Filtering" option.

It helps speed things up a SLIGHT bituser added image

Also, like Nem said, good lighting is one MAJOR key to a quality render out of Maya.
